The SEVEN DEVILS pre-release roundup!
Seven Devils releases this week (August 4 US/August 6 UK), and I’m basically a bundle of nerves right now. But some trade reviews have said some very nice things about it, and so I am sharing them.
- First up is Library Journal, who gave it a very shiny ★, and said, “Lam and May bring a multivoice story from a group of diverse, courageous females attempting to save themselves and their galaxy. Backstories and present-day actions are built into an alien setting, well-rounded characters, and an action-filled plot with themes of colonization, military manipulation, and conditioning.”
This is my first ever starred review, and I’m so chuffed to share it with Laura Lam, who worked so hard on this book with me.
- Next up is the excellent site Pajiba, who called it “unabashedly fun”.
- The UK book retailer Waterstones listed Seven Devils in its roundup of August’s Best Books. They said: “The first part of a bold, dynamic new space opera duology sees seven female resistance fighters take on the might of the evil Empire. Balancing high-octane interstellar thrills with nuanced, involving characterisation, Seven Devils marks Lam and May’s writing partnership out as one to watch.”
- Tor.com listed it in their book recommendations, calling it, “a lot like Star Wars, but far more murdery.” Which I think might be the most perfect way I’ve heard it described!
- Starburst Magazine gave it a 10/10, saying it was, “Powerfully feminist and meticulously constructed.”
I also love these gorgeous graphics my US publisher, DAW Books, did for our seven main characters. I had a lot of fun revealing each character on social media over the last week, and I can’t wait for you all to read about them!
More later, much love!
